Völklinger Hütte
A visit to the Völklingen Ironworks World Heritage Site is an adventure: deep into the dark corridors of the Möllerhalle or high up to the viewing platform at the blast furnace. The Völklingen Ironworks from the height of industrialisation is the first steelworks to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In terms of significance, it is on a par with the pyramids of Giza, the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. For over a century, it shaped the lives of thousands of people. Today, it is the most important 19th and 20th century hut in the world that has been completely preserved.
